Mixed Media/Miscellaneous
Caged Filipino 2020
Due to COVID19, the Philippines has been under quarantine throughout the months of March and April. On March 26th, the Human Rights Watch reported that officers in Manila were witnessed forcing curfew violators into a dog cage. In addition, curfew violators (including children), had to sit under the hot sun for hours and were also forced into coffins as "punishments" for violating quarantine. There are many punishments that could have been done that would not have stripped the humanity of the person being punished. I decided to create a woodburning piece that addressed the issue. Above and below the cage, the same phrase is written, in English and Tagalog respectively.

Taal Volcano - 2020
In January of 2020, the Taal Volcano in the Philippines erupted. Thousands of people were displaced due to the ashes that spewed from the volcano's caldera. I did not see a lot of major news about the eruption other than on local Filipino newssites, so I wanted to make a piece that addressed the issue.

Paper Sea - 2020
Carved and layered paper inside of a 5 in x 5 in x 9 in glass box, accented by fairy lights. Student Work. For this piece, I wished to mimic the vast expanse of the ocean within a very small space.

Nature's Melancholy
2019
This mixed-media piece is a self-portrait that investigates the contrast between a natural, undeveloped environment, and the same environment once it has been overdeveloped. The left half of the piece is a lush green forest painted using acrylic; the right half is a charcoal cityscape with a polluted sky. I, blindfolded, stand in the center with a cow's skull in my arms and a skeleton overlooking my shoulder.

Cass's Best Friend - 2019

A colored pencil self portrait on 22 inch x 19 inch grey drawing and pastel paper. For this project I wanted to focus on the inner happiness that spending time with my dog brings me. The background is inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh.
